Steel roof purlins are critical fasteners for roofing materials and they secure and level out the surface area, ensuring that the roof is adequately supported and evening distributed.

A metal purlin or roof purlin is made of structural steel. It is a lightweight, structural horizontal beam or bar that provides structural support in steel buildings or below the roof. In addition to providing support, metal purlins also increase a building’s resistance to heavy winds.

We sell two styles of purlins – C purlin and Z purlin.

Both styles are load-bearing members that can build a purlin system and provide the structural integrity your building or steel structure needs. 

The main difference between these two types of roof purlins is that C purlin sections have flanges that are equal in size and therefore cannot be lapped together. When a continuous span is required they are end butted. 

Metal Z purlins have one flange broader than the other, which allows the purlin to be rotated so that two sections can be lapped and bolted together, providing increased rigidity and load capacity.

Overall, Z purlins (z-shaped purlin) are stronger and used as roof framing members. But, C purlins (C shaped) are more lightweight and are normally used to support walls and floors.
